Our
Story

Our vision for AFM is to continue the welcoming, engaging environment that has made it a place where people with disabilities feel they belong. Building on the foundation Lucille has established, we aim to expand programs, introduce new activities, and sponsor additional community events. We want AFM to continue to be a place where friendships are formed,  confidence grows, and fitness is fun.

About Andree:
I live in Boxborough with my husband and family. I have three adult children. My youngest, Michelle, is a long-time AFM athlete and my motivation for becoming an advocate for adaptive fitness and inclusion. I have spent many years supporting adaptive sports and fitness organizations and volunteering in the community. One of my great joys has been working out regularly alongside Michelle and encouraging her involvement in adaptive sports. We’ve participated together in adaptive biking, canoeing, and numerous 5K races as a duo with Team Hoyt New England. We also enjoy trail hikes and are advocates for the state’s Unpaved Trails for All initiative. Through these experiences, I’ve come to deeply appreciate the authenticity and joy that people with disabilities bring to every aspect of life. I’m passionate about helping others discover that same excitement for movement, community and inclusion.

About Jamie:
My name is Jamie Allard, and I live in Westford with my husband and our two amazing kids. My daughter, Riley, affectionately known as “Smiley Riley” is an AFM athlete, and my son, Tristan, is a college student. We are a retired military family who has lived and traveled all over the world, and we love exploring new places and trying new foods. Our favorite trip so far has been to Switzerland. I grew up in Lexington and Maine and enjoy walking, writing, reading non-fiction, interior design, and gardening.

I am passionate about disability advocacy and have dedicated much of my professional and volunteer life to supporting individuals with disabilities and their families. I am a Speech Pathologist and currently serve on the Commission for Disabilities, the Federation for Children with Special Needs, and as Co-Chair of the SociAbility Society. Recently, Andree and I co-founded Creating Community Connections, an initiative aimed at expanding recreational opportunities for young adults with intellectual, physical, and neurological disabilities, as well as providing greater support for caregivers.

As a parent of an AFM athlete, I’ve seen firsthand the incredible impact this community has on confidence, connection, and growth. Riley has never considered herself athletic, but after just a few classes at AFM, I watched her transform, gaining strength, joy, and pride in her accomplishments. She now participates in two classes a week and wouldn’t give them up for anything. I’m deeply grateful for the positive role AFM has played in her life, and I feel truly honored to help carry forward Lucille’s mission to support adaptive athletes in achieving their fitness goals. I’m excited to meet and learn from all of you. Please come say hello if we haven’t met yet!

Together, we are honored to continue AFM’s mission and to work closely with our amazing coaches, athletes, and families as we begin this next chapter. Over the coming months, we’ll be connecting with many of you personally to share ideas and gather input on future programs.

Thank you for your continued trust and support.
